Only 21 percent of people not currently on Facebook claimed they aren’t not joining because of privacy issues. Another 21 percent of the people not currently part of the social network Facebook say they just “dislike it”

So what it comes down to is this… The majority of people who (voluntarily) put all their personal information into the site for people to see say they do not trust Facebook with the personal information. Weird isn’t it? I know I am guilty of this same thinking and i’m sure most of you reading this article is too. Facebook would perhaps worry about it’s upcoming IPO if 59 percent of the U.S. users quit the social network. The numbers show that won’t happen anytime soon.

This is what I mean:

56 percent of Americans say they have a Facebook page which is up from last year’s USA Today poll which was at 48 percent.

• Around 3 in 10 say they use Facebook every day.
• Younger adults are the biggest users, with a third (32 percent) of those under age 35 saying they visit Facebook multiple times a day. Most in this age group (55 percent) report using Facebook daily.
• In the senior citizens category, 73 percent do not have a Facebook page, and 47 percent of baby boomers say they don’t have one either.

A new study out reports that men who drank at least six cups of coffee a day had a 10 percent lower chance of dying that men who drank none at all. The risk for women was 15 percent lower. This was a 14 year study done by Neal Freedman, a nutritional epidemiology researcher at the National Cancer Institute. Freedman’s article is published in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine

“I would say it offers some reassurance to coffee drinkers,” said Neal Freedman. “Other studies have suggested a higher risk of mortality with coffee drinking and we didn’t see that in our study.”

“It’s good news for all coffee drinkers because we can feel really good about the decisions we’re making,” said Spencer Turer who is director of coffee operations for the firm Coffee Analysts. “People concerned about the health effects may choose to drink more coffee.”

Neal Freedman and his team in NIC’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics took on the task of reviewing the coffee drinking habits of more than 402,000 people between 1995 and 2008. This included 52,000 who died during the study.

There were around 229,000 men and 173,000 women who’s age ranges were from 50 to 71 years old. The NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study was done in six states and two metropolitan areas. Only healthy people were included in the study.

“We didn’t know what to expect,” recalled Freedman. “There have been a lot of studies and the results have been mixed.”

Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack says Guist was pronounced dead at a hospital today. He had fallen, near Pierre Part, while on his boat on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Waguespack said the initial reports from deputies in neighboring St. Martin Parish are that Guist was traveling on the waterway around 9 a.m. when he fell. The boat returned to a nearby landing in St. Martin and Guist was taken to a hospital. The cause of his fall is uncertain, and there is no word yet on the official cause of death.

McNamara told the Associated Press that his record breaking ride was sort of a fluke.

He didn’t even want to surf the waves from that spot that day because he had wiped out several times in that same spot on even bigger swells. “I was really beat-up that morning,” he said. “This day, I did not want to get out of bed.”

This spot he is talking about is above an undersea canyon which is known to produce some of the biggest waves on the planet.

Once he got into the water and helped other surfers catch a few waves they talked in him to surfing.

“Everything came together,” McNamara said Thursday. “Everything felt right.”

Garrett McNamara, 5’10″ tall, took on the huge wave as he let go of the tow rope at Praia do Norte. For a moment he disappeared into the break about 10 seconds into his run. He then sped up and broke through from the wave’s tube as the swell quickly dissipated.

“I knew it was big, but I didn’t know how big,” he said.

At first, McNamara didn’t even care that his wave could be a potential record but he was urged on by the people in Nazare, Portugal to try to get some type of confirmation. McNamara sent the footage to Billabong judge and surfing legend Sean Collins, who passed away in December, guessed the wave was 85 to 90 feet tall.

McNamara was given $15,000 (€11,573) for his huge ride at the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards in California last week. This is also when the record became official.

Bill Sharp told the Associated Press that they looked over footage and high-resolution still images from sever angles to try to get an accurate estimate. They used McNamara’s height when he is in a crouch position and also the length of his shin bone to help measure the wave.

“You can’t deny how big it was for that moment,” Sharp said.

Achievements like this is comparable to someone pitching a perfect game or hitting four home runs in one game which was just recently done by Texas Rangers outfield Josh Hamilton.

“But add to that the fact that the stadium could collapse on you at any second,” he said.

McNamara, began surfing when he was 11 years old and went pro at the early age of 17. He said the achievement was more important to him when he realized it could help him urge more people to follow their passions.

“The world would be a much better place if everyone was doing what they wanted to do,” he said.

A 22-year-old, Bennett Olson, paid for an ad to rotate on an electronic billboard in Minneapolis, Minn. to get a job.

Olson did end up getting a job from his “Hire Me!” billboard. He is taking a job with Laser Design & GKS Services, a 3D scanning company in Bloomington, Minn. He is going to be taking a sales and marketing associate position.

“After receiving quite a bit of attention, support and ultimately interviews I felt that Laser Design & GKS Services was the right fit because they are a young, yet established company which will provide me with the opportunity to learn and grow my career,” Olson wrote in an email.

Bennett Olson shelled out $300 to get an 8 second time slot on an electronic billboard by downtown Minneapolis. He kept the “Hire Me!” ad up for 24 hours which rotated with other electronic ads. Along with the “Hire Me!” front and center, he had a picture of himself and his website address.

Bennett had lost his previous job at a casino in March.

“For the pictures, we had her topless with a thick sparkly red choker with a big red heart in front and red and white polka dot panties … like 1950s style,” explains the source. “SpaghettiOs were all over her body, and she’s even throwing the SpaghettiOs toward the camera. The label on the can was changed from SpaghettiOs to say ‘Saucy Octos.’”

“She was a natural,” says an insider. “She looked great!!”
